Speaker: Dr. Jeff Lifson
Online Presentation: RSVP for Zoom link
About the Presenter: Dr. Jeff Lifson is a physician/scientist who serves as the Director of the AIDS and Cancer Virus Program at the Frederick National Laboratory. In this role, he oversees a program of more than 60 staff pursuing basic and applied research relevant to the diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of HIV infection and AIDS, and virally caused malignancies arising in the setting of AIDS virus immunosuppression. Since coming to the Frederick National Laboratory in 1995 his work has emphasized the development and application of novel nonhuman primate models to address key questions in AIDS research, including preclinical studies to evaluate vaccine and non-vaccine prevention methods and experimental treatments, including treatments to target the viral reservoirs that persist despite effectively suppressive antiretroviral drug treatment, as well as to explore therapies that have the potential to eliminate the requirement for daily antiretroviral drug treatment. With more than 400 scientific publications, he is known for his own original contributions and as a willing and helpful collaborator who provides enabling expertise to facilitate collaborative projects. A committed and accomplished mentor, he is an elected Fellow of the American Academy of Microbiology and the American Association for the Advancement of Science, and a member of multiple Editorial Boards and advisory committees.
