BSL3 Animal Care Technician
Charles River Laboratories is seeking a BioSafety Level 3 (BSL3) Animal Care Technician in Chicago , IL to maintain and monitor the health, production, post-operative care and physical environment within the animal care facility in the BSL3 suite. Responsibilities include working with the veterinarians and researchers while performing specialized techniques and procedures with the study animal models infected with hazardous biological agents. Perform isolator animal husbandry to include feeding, watering, and cleaning cages. Maintain and follow complex breeding procedures to ensure appropriate production levels; ear marking, tail sample collection and placing animals for mating, maintaining detailed/accurate records. May perform and/or provide veterinary technical support such as sentinel collection, animal treatments and environmental enrichment and/or behavioral assessments. All duties are involving specialized BSL3 safety methods, procedures and sanitization. Individual may act as team leader in specific projects and assist in the training, leadership, and motivation of new personnel.
BS in Animal Science or related is required plus two years of related animal facility experience and one of year experience in a BSL3 work environment. AALAS certification at the LAT level or higher is required.
